IMDB rating: 6.60

Plot: Capitalizing on his fame as the star of “Hogan’s Heroes,” Bob Crane (Greg Kinnear) dove into the freewheeling spirit of the 60s and 70s with relish, having affairs with numerous women. Eventually, Crane teamed up with video technician John Carpenter to document his exploits, an association that may very well have led to his murder in a Scottsdale, Arizona motel room in 1978, which remains officially unsolved to this day.

will the nikon TC20EII work with my nikon d90 and the af-s nikkor 70-300 mm f/4.5 lens i have with it?
i have read two different things and want to make sure that it will work with what i have. especially the auto focus function.

The teleconverter will work fine with both lens and camera. Your actual focal length will be 140-600 which is 210-900 in 35mm equivalent.

However, it will also cause the maximum f/4.5 to drop two stops to f/9. Your camera will require a minimum of f/5.6 to autofocus. Therefore you will not be able to autofocus with the teleconverter attached.

This is standard behaviour of any 2x teleconverter including those made by Nikon, Canon and Sigma. A 1.4x teleconverter only reduces the maximum aperture by 1 stop, though this would also be enough to prevent autofocus.

According to the user manual for the AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED, the lens is incompatible with all of Nikon teleconverters (manual 22). Nikon has a history of reserving/designing its TCs specifically for its higher end optics. It may be possible to use a 3rd party teleconverter (Kenko, Sigma, etc.).

For further reinforcement, Kenny R has this to say about the TC20E:
"It is useless unless you have an AF-I or AF-S lens of f/2.8 or faster. One CANNOT mount any other AF or manual lens or accessory to the front because it is keyed mechanically to prevent this.

For instance, the 70-300mm AF-S VR, 80-200mm f/2.8 AF-D and 80-400mm VR lenses can’t even be mounted to this converter. Nikon designed them this way.

There is no difference between the TC-20E and TC-20E II. They both work with VR and AF-S lenses."

The camera need a lens with a aperture of at least f5.6 for the autofocus to work so adding a TC 14 tele on that lens you’ll have aperture of f 6.3
